A couple more weeks before we head out on tour. Mallary recently got the Springfield, Oregon show confirmed. That’s taking place on August 5th with Ditch Projects at 190 S. 5th Street. We also got in touch with another group of filmmakers, Marc Moscato and David Gracon (thank you Karl Lind for making the effort with the Waypost, and all of Portland for that matter -mal), doing something similar to us but on BIKES! They’re with Tough Stuff from the Buff http://tuffstuffbuff.wordpress.com/ , a collection of underground and defiantly independent videos about their hometown of Buffalo, NY. Their 12-stop tour will screen at theaters, all ages venues and non-traditional spaces throughout the Pacific Northwest this July-August.
We’ll be crossing paths on the weekend of August 1-2. They’ll be screening at The Waypost on the 2nd and we’ll have our FREE show on the 1st. So, it will be a weekend of experimental fun. You should come!
In the meantime, here’s more on them:
Tough Stuff from the Buff highlights Buffalo’s little known Do-It-Yourself (DIY) media arts community, focusing on contemporary works that blur the lines between video art, personal documentary and media activism. Representing a diverse group of artists, from accomplished media makers to youth-produced projects, the collection reflects the city’s public spaces, political struggles and its resiliency under late capitalism.

Buffalo has only recently started to become recognized for its lo-fi, experimental and uncompromising body of film and video. Last year’s release of Buffalo Heads: Media Study, Media Practice, Media Pioneers, 1973-1990 (MIT, 2008) has brought renewed interest in the city’s media community and the organizations that have fostered its vibrancy, including New York State Council on the Arts, Hallwalls Contemporary Arts Center, University at Buffalo’s Department of Media Study and Squeaky Wheel. Tough Stuff from the Buff acknowledges the origins of this tradition, while focusing on contemporary examples of those persevering against the odds of creating media in a dying rustbelt town.
Again, hope you can come out to the shows!
